We start with relaxing the body to help access rational thoughts. I will ask questions and provide support and information to help you reflect on your thoughts with new awareness. A broader perspective and deeper understanding empowers your inner healthy part. New thought patterns are developed and strengthened. With a fresh sense of clarity, you are free to move toward your unique goals in a rational, healthy way.
If thoughts about the past, present, or future elicit anxiety, anger, fear, or other distress, we will work with the deeper parts of the brain, where emotions, body sensations, and sensory information is processed. When we have unprocessed or unresolved problems, we're vulnerable to being triggered by any related perception. Working with the deeper parts of the brain involves visualization and focus on your body. It does not require talking about your problems. This approach can put memories where they belong, in the past, stored in a healthy way in the brain so you can recall the facts without the pain. This process decreases vulnerability to triggers, while expanding feelings of relief, lightness, resolution, and calmness.
